Imam-ul-Haq left out some notable names from his Pakistan’s all-time ODI XI. While speaking on a television show, the 28-year-old picked active white-ball skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal in his XI but went on to ignore all-time greats Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar.

Earlier this year, Imam-ul-Haq toured Australia for a three-match Test series which Pakistan went on to lose by a 0-3 margin. Off late, the cricketer has been making television appearances to sum up Pakistan’s performance at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Imam-ul-Haq ignored Test icon and T20 World Cup winning skipper Younis Khan, all-time great all-rounder and former ODI captain Shahid Afridi, as well as legendary fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar from his Pakistan’s all-time ODI playing XI.

Instead, the 28-year-old picked active skipper Babar Azam; controversial wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal alongside Saeed Anwar, Javed Miandad and proficient pace portmanteau of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.

Imam also selected former Pakistan captain and ‘uncle’ Inzamam-ul-Haq as one of the middle-order batters for his Pakistan ODI playing XI.

Under the leadership of Babar Azam, the Pakistan cricket team recently crashed to a first-round exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies. As of now, several ‘Men in Green’ players are prepping themselves for Pakistan’s upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh.

Imam-ul-Haq, who played his previous international match against Australia back in December 2023, will be expected to make a return to the playing group for the impending home series.
