England cricket team are without a head coach in white-ball cricket as Matthew Mott stepped down, leaving the post vacant ahead of a crucial limited-format series against Australia.

Since Mott stepped down as England's head coach, several renowned cricket figures have been linked to succeed Mott. Meanwhile, Kumar Sangakkara reportedly emerged as a frontrunner for the vacant post.

The former Sri Lanka batter, who currently is the director of cricket for Rajasthan Royals, is touted to become the new England white-ball coach.

In the latest events, Sangakkara broke silence on these rumours and stated that while the England head coach position is an amazing prospect, he is yet to hear from the ECB.

“Well, I know (my name) has been mentioned for some reason, but there has not been any approach as such,” Sangakkara, part of Sky Sports’ commentary team for The Hundred, told the PA news agency.

Meanwhile, Sangakkara also praised ex-England coach's contribution and also spoke about Jos Buttler being given a longer rope by ECB as Three Lions' captain.

“I think the England white-ball job is an exciting prospect for anyone, but there are so many good candidates out there. I think Matthew Mott has done a really good job.It is great that Jos Buttler is staying in that leadership role as the side progresses because it is a nice time from what the side is – and was – and how it wants to progress in the future."

Kumar remarked that he is happy at Rajasthan Royals and enjoying his role at the IPL franchise.

"I am very happy at the moment. The Rajasthan Royals experience has been very fulfilling and it has been a job I have really enjoyed over the last four years."

There were even rumours that former India head coach Rahul Dravid might replace Sangakkara at Rajasthan Royals to become their head coach.
