On the cusp of what could be a famous Test win at Lord’s, India all-rounder Washington Sundar has expressed full confidence in his team’s ability to chase down the remaining 135 runs and clinch the third Test against England on Day 5. Despite India being in a precarious position at 58 for 4 at stumps on Day 4, Sundar remains optimistic, predicting the win may come 'probably just after lunch.'

Sundar Confident Despite Wickets Lost Late on Day 4

Speaking to Sky Sports after stumps on Day 4, Sundar said:

"Definitely India [are] winning tomorrow, probably in the first session. Probably just after lunch."

India were rocked by England’s pace attack late on Day 4, losing top-order batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Karun Nair, and nightwatchman Akash Deep, with only 58 runs on the board. However, opener KL Rahul stood firm on 33 not out, giving the visitors hope of chasing down 193 to secure a 2–1 lead in the five-match series.

"We want so many things the way we expect it to be, but yes, we'll take it any day. We'll really come out positive tomorrow. We've got some solid batsmen in the dressing room. It's exciting in every way, you know, winning a Test at Lord's is going to be amazing. So, I think we're sitting pretty," Sundar said during the post-day press conference. Chosen ahead of Kuldeep Yadav for his all-round abilities, Washington justified his selection with timely breakthroughs that dented England's batting line-up.

Sundar’s All-Round Performance Key To India’s Comeback

Earlier in the day, Washington Sundar delivered one of his best bowling performances outside India, taking 4 wickets for just 22 runs in 12.1 overs. His spell dismantled England’s middle and lower order, removing key batters including Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Jamie Smith. England collapsed for 192 in their second innings, setting India a modest but tricky target on a deteriorating Lord’s pitch.

"Definitely one of the best days with the ball for me, especially outside of India. But yes, I definitely had some solid plans coming into this Test match and really wanted to execute them both in the first and second innings," he explained.

Chosen over wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav for his all-round capabilities, Sundar also chipped in with a crucial 23 in India’s first innings, helping the visitors match England’s total of 387.

All Eyes on Lord’s For A Historic Finish

With 135 runs still to get and six wickets in hand, the match is tantalizingly poised heading into the final day. If India manage to pull off the chase, it will be one of their most memorable Test wins at Lord’s, adding to their 2021 triumph at the same venue.
