The 28th CPL 2025 match between Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders was meant to be a tight finish. But instead of saving the day, veteran all-rounder Kieron Pollard blew up his death over duties to end up as the villain for TKR.
Trinbago had set up a competitive total of 166 runs in the first innings after captain Nicholas Pooran’s 45 off 44 balls scratchy knock. In the second inning, however, Quinton de Kock led the charge for the Royals, hitting 55 off just 35 balls.
Given Usman Tariq’s economical bowling, where he picked 2 wickets while conceding 23 runs, the match went down to the wire.
Kieron Pollard Leaks 26 Runs In One Of His Worst T20I Spells
With the Barbados Royals needing 21 runs off 12 balls, Trinbago Knight Riders captain Nicholas Pooran handed over the ball to his most trusted ally, Kieron Pollard, to bowl the 19th over.
However, from the very first ball, things went haywire for TKR. After a single, Pollard delivered a short ball on the leg stump that Rovman Powell hooked over fine leg for six.
With fear engulfing the Knight Riders, Powell took a single to bring Sherfane Rutherford on strike.
That single was the beginning of Kieron Pollard’s worst nightmare. The veteran all-rounder, with a decade of experience in T20 cricket, was hammered for three sixes in a row, straight after each other.
Rutherford smashed over deep extra cover, pulled out of the crease to clear fine leg, and made an overpitched full toss dance out of the park. That 26-run over broke TKR’s heart as they lost the game by 7 wickets.
But the question that had everybody on the edge was what went wrong with Kieron Pollard. Instead of controlling the game, his line and length failed him. The Royals roared home with a mega victory while the Knight Riders fans stood still in silence.
Pollard’s spell read 4 overs for 0 wickets and 43 runs, with all the damage done in that 19th over. Usually, players like Pollard are trusted to bowl those tight death overs to give the side a chance. Not this time. The pressure, the slog, everything went against him.
