The SA20 2025 auction is going at full swing, and South African superstar Dewald Brevis created history by becoming the most expensive buy in the tournament's history. Brevis was in red-hot form heading into the auction day, and there was a two-way tussle to acquire the services of the Proteas superstar.

Brevis shatters Markram's record-breaking price in minutes

The Pretoria Capitals and Joburg Super Kings had an intense battle to acquire the talented batter, and in the end, it was the Capitals who snatched him for a whopping R16.50 million (INR 8 crore 30 lakh approx).

Interestingly, Aiden Markram, his Proteas teammate was sold for 7 crores to Durban's Super Giants, and became the most expensive player for a brief period before Brevis shattered it. Super Kings had a budget of 21.5 million, and they went upto 16.4 million before the franchise decided to pull out.

Before the mega auction on Tuesday, middle-order batter Tristan Stubbs held the record for the most expensive player in SA20. The aggressive batter was sold to Sunrisers Eastern Cape for a whopping R 9.2 million, and that record was broken by not only Markram, but Brevis as well.

Why Brevis deserved to be the most expensive buy in SA20 auction

In the middle of the IPL 2025 season, Brevis was roped in as an injury replacement player, and the South African left a lasting impression, scoring 225 runs in six matches, with a strike rate of 180. In a season where CSK failed to deliver the goods, Brevis stood tall and performed exceedingly well.

Moreover, in the recently concluded T20I series vs Australia, the Proteas player showed his class and scored his maiden century in T20Is, and had a strike rate of 204 as the world took notice of his talent.
