As India gears up for their Asia Cup 2025 clash against Pakistan, opener Shubman Gill gave fans a refreshing glimpse into his life off the pitch with a fun, rapid-fire session. The young star revealed his quirky choices, cricketing inspirations, and even his cheat meals.

Gill has made a comeback into India’s T20I squad as vice-captain for the Asia Cup 2025 edition. In the first game against the UAE, he scored 20 runs off 9 balls in a 58-run chase.

However, his first real test will be against Pakistan on Sunday, September 14, at the Dubai International Stadium.

Shubman Gill Gets Candid In Fun Rapid Fire

Ahead of the India-Pakistan game, Sony Sports Network released a video where Shubman Gill featured in a rapid-fire session. When asked which teammate he would like to bat with forever, Gill didn’t hesitate before naming Abhishek Sharma.

The duo, who’ve shared many partnerships in domestic and international cricket, have a great rapport at the crease, and Gill admitted that batting alongside Abhishek makes things easier.

He also opened up about his admiration for AB de Villiers’ famous scoop shot, saying that if he could borrow one skill, that would be the one. Among bowlers, Gill rated England’s James Anderson as the toughest he has ever faced, given the veteran’s relentless accuracy and skill.

The 26-year-old batter also revealed some fun behind-the-scenes details of his routine. For example, he carries nine bats with him during tournaments. Before stepping onto the field, Gill gets into the zone by listening to his curated playlist, a ritual he swears by.

When asked about his favourite cheat meals, Gill smiled and named some Indian comfort foods, with pancakes, butter chicken, and dal makhani topping the list.

Gill Picked Virat Kohli As His Idol

Shubman Gill, India’s new Test captain and vice-captain in white-ball formats, has revealed the two players who inspired him most while growing up. Surprisingly, it’s not Rohit Sharma, his current captain.

Speaking on the Apple Music podcast, Gill said his first idol was Sachin Tendulkar, his father’s favourite, who made him fall in love with cricket. The second was Virat Kohli, whose energy and consistency motivated him during his early career.

His hunger and sheer passion encouraged Gill to follow Kohli’s footsteps so much so that their journey is turning out to be almost identical.
