Veteran wicket-keeping batter Dinesh Karthik has sparked excitement among cricket fans with his recent match-winning knock against Punjab Kings(PBKS) in the IPL 2024.

After guiding Royal Challengers Bengaluru(RCB) to victory with a heroic 28 runs off 10 balls, Karthik took to the social media platform 'X' to joke about 2024 being a World Cup year.

"Me seeing those 'It's a World Cup year' memes," Karthik posted.

Will Karthik play in T20 WC?

Karthik, who last represented India in the 2022 T20 World Cup, aims for a resurgence in his career. Despite a dismal display in the previous IPL season and being dropped from the Indian side, Karthik has showcased promising form in IPL 2024.

With two crucial knocks under his belt, including an unbeaten 38 against Chennai Super Kings(CSK) and a blazing 26 off 10 balls against Punjab Kings, Karthik is proving his worth once again.

Having scored 66 runs in two matches without being dismissed, Karthik's performance has reignited hopes of a potential comeback to the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024.

Fans are speculating whether Karthik can replicate his match-winning performances throughout the season and secure a spot in the national squad.

Despite uncertainty surrounding his international future, Karthik remains determined to make IPL 2024 his last appearance in the league. However, with the T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled just a week after the conclusion of IPL, Karthik has an outside chance of earning a spot in the Indian team if he continues to excel in the tournament.

With India yet to finalize their wicketkeeping option for the T20 World Cup, fans are hopeful that Karthik's stellar performances could lead to another fairy tale comeback.
