Dinesh Karthik's tremendous end-overs blitz on Monday (March 25) night in the IPL 2024 thriller against Punjab Kings (PBKS) gave Indian fans a perfect deja vu.

The experienced India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) maverick made cricket lovers reminisce the time when his scintillating finish in Colombo famously helped Team India lift the Nidahas Trophy in March 2018.

In one of the major highlights of his international career, the extravagant Tamil Nadu veteran right-hander hammered Bangladesh for an unbeaten 29 off just 8 deliveries in the T20I tri-series final and propelled India past the finish line, overhauling the opposition's 166/8 on the last ball of the tournament.

When Karthik Won India Nidahas Trophy

After being made to wait painstakingly for his turn by stand-in Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Karthik finally walked to the middle at No. 7 with 34 runs required off the last 2 overs. Inadvertently, all the waiting helped the anxious and nervy character, whose best came out since he didn't have to overthink and play the situation.

Karthik immediately got into his work and belted Bangladesh pacer Rubel Hossain for a pair of sixes and two fours in an expensive 22-run 19th over to ease India's task a bit as he managed to reduce the equation to 12 off 6 balls.

But as the strike changed for the start of the 20th over bowled by part-time pacer Soumya Sarkar, Bangladesh got right back in the contest when the struggling Vijay Shankar failed to hit big at his end and was dismissed off a miscued stroke eventually. India scored just 7 runs off the first five balls of the over and now required a six off Karthik's bat to win the game.

As it transpired, the world-class batter hung deep inside his crease and executed a six over deep cover boundary against a wide yorker from Sarkar to clinch victory for his team under immense pressure and helped Rohit's men lift the coveted Nidahas Trophy.
