Veteran India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik is set to bid farewell to the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the 2024 season, commencing on March 22.

Having graced the IPL with his presence across all 16 editions, the 38-year-old stalwart, currently with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), is on the brink of closing this chapter of his cricketing career.

Beyond his IPL journey, Karthik's future in international cricket hangs in balance, with a decision anticipated soon, according to reports from ESPNCricinfo.

Karthik's journey through the IPL has been remarkable, with him only sitting out two matches throughout his entire stint.

The Tamil Nadu lad commenced his IPL journey with Delhi Daredevils, now known as Delhi Capitals, and went on to play for Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, and Kolkata Knight Riders, before his current tenure with RCB.

Throughout, he has played 242 matches, scoring 4516 runs at an impressive average of 25.81 and a strike rate of 132.71, alongside exceptional wicketkeeping skills, resulting in 141 catches and 36 stumpings.

Despite a tough 2023 season, his phenomenal 2022 performance underscored his ability and significant contribution to RCB's playoff journey.

Apart from his on-field achievements, Karthik has also carved a niche for himself in the commentary box with his insightful, technique-focused analysis. His venture into commentary has been well-received, adding another dimension to his cricketing career.

Moreover, Karthik's engagement in domestic cricket remains active, as seen in his recent participation in the DY Patil T20 Cup in Navi Mumbai. This illustrates his undiminished passion for the game and readiness to contribute irrespective of the platform.

Karthik's international career has been notable, with him navigating the challenges of competing in the same era as MS Dhoni. Since his debut in 2004, he has represented India in 26 Tests, 94 ODIs, and 60 T20Is, showcasing his versatility and dedication.

As Karthik approaches the age of 39, the cricket world is keenly watching what lies ahead for this seasoned cricketer.
