'He Never Broke Free In RCB,' De Villiers Lauds CSK For Shivam Dube's Resurgence In IPL

AB De Villiers, who was a part of the same dressing room as Shivam Dube during his stint at Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has revealed that the latter was never comfortable when he came to RCB. 

While talking on Jio Cinema, the ex-protea skipper praised MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming duo for this revelation of Shivam since joining CSK. 

"It’s fantastic to see Shivam like this. He never really broke free in the RCB changing room. He was quite a shy guy, worked really hard, and asked a lot of questions back in the day. I think he did a bit of learning there but never felt comfortable," De Villiers said. 

"He talks about being free in CSK, and that is the magic recipe that MSD, Gaikwad, Stephen Fleming, and all the guys from the past have set up over there. It’s a workhorse of a franchise that just makes it work every time, every single season, with new players who feel free to express themselves," he added. 

Dube, who played for RCB in two seasons, 2019 and 2020, managed to score only  169 runs in 15 appearances striking at just over 122, leading to his subsequent release from the Bengaluru-based franchise. 

He went on to play the next season with Rajasthan Royals, where he failed to impress yet again. He scored 230 runs in the 9 games while striking at 119. That was the end of the road for him at RR as well. 

Since joining CSK, only two games into his third season, the Mumbai southpaw has already scored 792 runs at a strike rate of 158.  

Dube himself, while receiving his player of the match award, also had a lot of good things to add about the franchise and how things work differently in Chennai.  

"This franchise (CSK) is something different from all others. They are giving me the freedom. They want me to do better and I also want to win some matches," the explosive batter revealed. 

Dube, who is in sublime form, will be in action against Delhi Capitals in 13th group-stage match of IPL 2024 on March 31.
