On January 12, Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will officially take over as the new secretary and treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The duo will be elected unopposed, meaning they are the only candidates in the running after the nomination process wrapped up.

The BCCI's electoral officer, Achal Kumar Joti, oversaw the entire nomination process. He finalized the list of contesting candidates on January 7, after the deadline for withdrawing nominations ended at 2 PM that day. Since no other names were submitted, and no candidates withdrew, Saikia and Bhatia became the automatic choices for their respective roles.

The final list of candidates was made public at 5 PM on January 7. The process went smoothly, signaling that the BCCI is in favour of continuing with stable and experienced leadership.

Who Is Devajit Saikia?

Devajit Saikia has been acting as the interim BCCI secretary since December 1, when Jay Shah stepped down to become the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Saikia’s interim period has been a time of stability for the BCCI, which likely played a key role in his official appointment.

Who Is Prabhtej Singh Bhatia?

Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will take over as BCCI treasurer, succeeding Ashish Shelar. Shelar left the role to join the Maharashtra government as a cabinet minister. Bhatia’s background in finance and management makes him a valuable addition to the board.
