The Champions Trophy is back after eight long years and the excitement around the event is increasing with each passing day. The 2025 edition will be held in hybrid model with UAE hosting India matches and rest of the games in Pakistan. The Men in Green are also the defending champions, and they would be looking to defend their title against seven other quality teams.
One of them is Australia. The 2023 World Cup Champions always tend to bring out their best in ICC tournaments and Pat Cummins who has won almost every trophy in the last few years would be looking to bag this one too. The Australian squad is expected to be full of match-winners, but there is always a fear of a big player getting injured in cricket, and the Kangaroos too have some injury-prone cricketers in their squad.
So, let's look at the three Australian players who could miss the Champions Trophy 2025 due to an injury.
Josh Hazlewood
Josh Hazlewood is one of the pillars of Australian pace attack alongside Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, but has been laid low by injuries in recent times. He missed the second Test against India in the recently held Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to calf strain, and then missed the final two Tests as well with side strain.
The pacer is now out of the Sri Lanka tour as well and there are some serious concerns over his fitness. In the past, the right-arm fast bowler has been hampered by back injuries and side soreness, and with age not on his side, there are enough chances that he could miss out on Champions Trophy due to injury.
Hazlewood was part of Australia's Champions Trophy squad in 2017 and picked 9 wickets in three matches. So, Aussies would want his services in the tournament and they would have to manage his workload cleverly to extract maximum benefit in Champions Trophy.
Mitchell Marsh
The seam-bowling all-rounder is a genuine match-winner and can turn the game single-handedly when he finds his groove. However, injuries have hampered his progress quite a lot over the years. In the 2024 IPL, Mitchell Marsh suffered a hamstring injury which at one point in time threatened to spoil his T20 World Cup 2024 dreams.
In the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy too, he had an injury scare while over the years, shoulder and ankle injuries have troubled him. He is a fast-bowling all-rounder which is a job that is bound to take a toll on one's body and one misstep and we might see Mitchell Marsh out of the Champions Trophy 2025 due to injury.
Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell is another star Australian cricketer who has been troubled by injuries in the recent past. The 'Big Show' suffered a hamstring injury before Border-Gavaskar Trophy during the third T20I against Pakistan and missed few matches of BBL as well.
He is now 36-year-old and has been injury-prone in he last few years where he has been laid low by hip injury, finger blow and problem with his forearm muscle. Glenn Maxwell's major problem has been the leg injury that he got in 2022. It was a career-threatening injury and though Maxwell has made a strong comeback, his body remains injury-prone and his workload needs to be managed very carefully.
