The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) was shaken by a scary late-night incident in Barbados. Two St Kitts and Nevis Patriots players and a CPL official were robbed at gunpoint while returning from a private event in the early hours of September 9.
According to TOI, the thieves targeted jewellery and other valuables. In the middle of the chaos, one of the robbers dropped a gun, which was later recovered by the police.
Thankfully, none of the victims were injured, but the shocking event has left the cricketing world stunned.
CPL On High Alert After Security Breach
The Barbados Police Service confirmed that the weapon has been secured and an active investigation is in progress to identify the culprits. They also assured that extra security measures are being taken. The police are working closely with the team and CPL officials to get to the bottom of the case.
On the other hand, the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots management, while confirming the robbery, chose not to reveal the names of the players or the CPL staff member involved in order to respect their privacy.
A CPL spokesperson also issued a statement saying that the safety and well-being of everyone involved is their top priority and that the matter is now fully in the hands of the police.
Despite the shock, the Patriots are continuing their preparations for their next big clash against the Barbados Royals at Kensington Oval on September 11. However, security around the team has now been made tighter, and monitoring has been increased.
The Patriots are not having a great season on the field as well. In CPL 2025, the team managed to win just 3 out of the 9 contests played so far, thus dropping to 5th on the points table with slim playoff qualification hopes.
