Mohammad Rizwan plays sublime innings against GAW [Source: @umuth_tilak/X.com]
Mohammad Rizwan once again proved why he is one of the most consistent T20 performers in world cricket despite being literally kicked out by Pakistan from the Asia Cup 2025 squad. Walking in early after the dismissal of Andre Fletcher, Rizwan steadied the Patriots’ innings at a time when wickets kept tumbling at the other end.
Rizwan Shines Amidst Collapsing Mates
The Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter not only held the innings together but also shifted gears when it mattered most. His 62-ball 85 included eight fours and three sixes, showcasing his ability to anchor while accelerating in the death overs. Even as Rilee Rossouw and skipper Jason Holder failed to get going, Rizwan’s presence ensured the Patriots reached a competitive total.
Rizwan’s partnerships were crucial in shaping the innings. He first stitched together a 38-run stand with Rossouw before adding another vital 61 with Navin Bidaisee. His running between the wickets and shot selection stood out, frustrating the Warriors’ attack despite regular breakthroughs.
Though he was run out in the penultimate over, Mohammad Rizwan had already done the damage by taking his team close to the 150-mark. His knock not only lifted the Patriots’ batting effort but also gave their bowlers the cushion they needed to defend under pressure.
Guyana Falters In Front Of Patriots Attack
In reply, Guyana Amazon Warriors stumbled in their chase of 150. Despite a solid start from Ben McDermott and Moeen Ali, the innings lost momentum after regular strikes from the Patriots’ bowlers. Shai Hope’s 31 kept hopes alive, but the middle order failed to provide support.
With 33 needed off the last three overs, Naseem Shah and Jason Holder held their nerve, while Waqar Salamkheil chipped in with two key wickets.
Quentin Sampson’s late cameo brought the game down to the wire, but Naseem delivered a brilliant final over, conceding just six runs. The Warriors eventually finished at 144/8, handing the Patriots a narrow 5-run win.
