Shakib Al Hasan proved he has still got plenty of firepower left in the tank. The Bangladesh ace played a whirlwind knock for Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on Sunday at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia.

Shakib Al Hasan Smashes 20 Ball Fifty With Career Best Strike Rate

In no mood to hang around, Shakib Al Hasan hammered his way to a 20-ball half-century, his joint-fastest in T20 cricket and finished with a strike rate that bettered every other knock in his career.

Walking in with intent, Shakib unleashed his full range of shots to take the game by the scruff of the neck. His 26-ball 61 was laced with five fours and five sixes, sending the ball sailing over the ropes at will.

He matched his previous fastest fifty, the 20-ball blitz for Rangpur Riders against Khulna Tigers in last year’s BPL but this time went one step better, finishing with a career-best strike rate of 234.61. His earlier best was 222.58, making this effort a new high-water mark in his T20 career.

Seifert Steals The Show

Even though Shakib’s fireworks had set the stage, the night was hijacked by New Zealand’s Tim Seifert. The St Lucia Kings opener went on a rampage, belting a brutal 125 off just 53 deliveries.

With nine sixes and ten fours peppering the stands, Seifert’s carnage overshadowed Shakib’s innings and carried the Kings to a thumping six-wicket win with 13 balls left in the bank.

Struggles With The Ball

If the bat sang for Shakib, the ball told a different story. The left-arm spinner endured a rough outing, leaking 32 runs in his two overs. Seifert, in particular, took him to the cleaners.

In Shakib’s second over, the last of the Powerplay, the Kiwi cracked three fours and two sixes, having already dispatched him for a maximum earlier. It was a night to forget with the ball, even if his batting reminded everyone of his match-winning aura.

Falcons Still In The Hunt

Despite the loss, Antigua and Barbuda Falcons remain in the mix on the CPL table. With seven points from eight matches, they sit third, just behind Trinbago Knight Riders and St Lucia Kings. With three wins under their belt, they will be hoping Shakib’s form with the bat can keep sparking when it matters most.
