Cricket fans in Bangladesh were left scratching their heads after a bizarre DPL 2024-25 match between Gulshan Cricket Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. The match, which was supposed to be just another day in the league, has now come under the scanner of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) and Technical Committee following a series of eyebrow-raising dismissals.

Viral Dismissals From DPL 2025 Prompt Urgent Investigation By BCB

Things went south when Shinepukur’s Rahim Ahmed, danced down the track in the 36th over but didn’t even bother trying to hit the ball. It drifted past him into the keeper’s gloves and he was stumped with zero resistance. The timing, the footwork, and the intent, none of it added up.

As if that wasn’t enough, another Shinepukur batter, Minhajul Sabbir, was dismissed in the most awkward fashion in the 44th over and he was the last wicket to fall as his team lost the match by 5 runs while chasing a target of 179.

He missed the delivery from Naeem Islam, had enough time to ground his bat, but instead looked like he was walking in slow motion. The wicketkeeper fumbled at first, but eventually managed to remove the bails. The whole thing looked fishy.

BCB Smells Something Fishy

The Bangladesh Cricket Board wasted no time. On Thursday, they released a statement saying they have taken “note of the concerns” and are now investigating the match for possible irregularities. The board reiterated its “zero-tolerance policy” on anything that could mess with the integrity of the sport.

They have looped in both the Anti-Corruption Unit and the DPL Technical Committee, and any action will be based on what their deep dive uncovers.

Bangladesh cricket legends didn’t mince their words. Shamsur Rahman, Rajin Saleh, Shahriar Nafees, and Imrul Kayes slammed the scenes as an utter “shame” for Bangladesh cricket. Their reactions lit up social media, with fans echoing the same sentiment.

The BCB has promised to clean up this mess and ensure nothing like this happens again. If found guilty, expect heads to roll. Cricket in Bangladesh has been making the right moves in recent years and a scandal like this is the last thing anyone wants.
