The buzz around PSL 2025 is already off the charts but it was not just the upcoming clash between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars that had fans talking. During the official captains’ conference ahead of the big opener, one big name was missing: Karachi Kings’ newly appointed skipper, David Warner.

While five captains were present and suited up for the media, Warner was nowhere to be seen. So, what really happened?

Warner Chooses Practice Over PR’ Skips PSL 2025 Captains’ Conference For Team Prep

As fans and media expected to see the Aussie superstar front and centre alongside the likes of Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan, the surprise no-show quickly became a talking point. But it turns out, David Warner’s absence wasn’t due to any drama or delay, it was a calculated move.

According to insiders from the Karachi Kings camp, Warner opted out of the conference to attend his team’s intra-squad practice match. After a washed-out training session the previous day, the captain was keen to watch his entire squad in action, get a closer look at combinations and lock in his plans before their tournament opener.

While most players would have made a beeline for the flashing cameras, Warner chose to keep things cricket-first. For a seasoned pro like him, the message was loud and clear: preparation comes before presentation. With just a day or two left before Karachi Kings take the field against Multan Sultans on April 12, Warner wasn’t leaving anything to chance.

And fans can’t really complain. Warner has always been a lead-by-example kind of cricketer and his decision to skip the spotlight for a high-intensity nets session just adds to that rep.

Hasan Ali Steps Up For Karachi Kings

With Warner away, Hasan Ali, now officially the vice-captain of Karachi Kings, represented the franchise at the captains’ meet. Hasan, who has always been a spirited presence on the field, spoke about the team’s confidence heading into the new season and promised fireworks when the Kings take the park at the National Bank Stadium.

The Kings have assembled a solid squad this time around. With Warner leading the charge, supported by a pace-heavy attack including Hasan Ali, Adam Milne and Abbas Afridi, and backed by global stars like James Vince, Kane Williamson, and Litton Das, the team looks well-rounded.

All eyes will be on Warner’s leadership style and how he brings the best out of this exciting unit. The first big test will come on April 12 against a strong Multan Sultans side, and you can bet Warner will be locked in.
