According to emerging reports, the BCCI is considering scrapping the impact player rule ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League season. Currently, the governing body is in talks with the captains of all IPL teams, with a decision likely to be taken on several regulations, including the impact player rule.

Impact Player Rule Could Be Removed: Reports

The impact player rule, introduced in 2023, allows an IPL team to field twelve players, instead of eleven, in their combination. Thus, the participating teams have the luxury of including several specialists, which somehow marginalises the role of multi-dimensional players.

As the BCCI gets involved in a meeting with the IPL 2025 captains, a renowned journalist has reported that the controversial impact player rule is among the twelve agendas to be discussed. He also reported that the BCCI could consider removing it; however, the official word on the matter has yet to come.

Apart from the impact player rule, the captains' meeting agenda also comprises several debated topics such as the two bouncers rule, concussion replacement, super over, DRS reviews and countdown etc.

BCCI To Lift Ban On Use Of Saliva

As the IPL 2025 nears, the BCCI seems determined to modify several existing rules in the competition. As reported earlier, the apex body might allow the players to use saliva to shine the ball, something the ICC prohibited through a rule during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Having said that, the final list of amended rules will be released only after the BCCI concludes the meeting with the captains.
