Roston Chase has been appointed as the new Test captain of the West Indies cricket team. The senior all-rounder was elected as captain in mid-May, roughly a couple of months after Kraigg Brathwaite stepped down as national skipper.

Roston’s first assignment as Test captain will be West Indies’ upcoming three-match home series against the visiting Australian team between June and July. Notably, Chase played the last of his 49 Tests back in March 2023, i.e., over two years ago.

West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase has been appointed as the new captain of the Test team in the wake of Kraigg Brathwaite’s exit from the high-profile role. Brathwaite stepped down as West Indies skipper back in March this year, shortly after squaring off a Test series in Pakistan by a 1-1 margin.

Nonetheless, Chase has played 49 Tests in his career since making his debut back in July 2016. The cricketer has so far minted over 2,000 runs at an average of 26.33 with five tons and 11 fifties, and has additionally harvested 85 wickets through his right-arm off-breaks.

Roston Chase is currently in Ireland along with the rest of his West Indies colleagues for a three-match ODI series against the hosts. The series will be followed by another three-match ODI rubber against England later this month.

As Test captain, Roston Chase will be seen leading the West Indies cricket team in their upcoming three-match Test series against Australia. The first Test will be played between June 25 and June 29 in Bridgetown. The series will also launch the 2025-27 WTC campaign for the West Indies.
