Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani has congratulated franchise veteran Rohit Sharma after the unveiling of a stand named after him at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The ‘Rohit Sharma Stand’ inauguration ceremony was organized at the venue on Friday, May 16.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed the revised date of the ceremony earlier this week, after the IPL 2025 season was put to a halt by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) citing India’s cross-border tensions with Pakistan.

Akash Ambani has congratulated legendary Indian opener Rohit Sharma for getting a stand named after him at the Wankhede Stadium. In a short video shared by the Mumbai Indians franchise on social media, Akash can be seen praising Sharma for his remarkable contributions towards Indian cricket.
The Mumbai Indians owner starts out his speech by saying, “A young boy from Borivali who now has a name on one of the most iconic world venues of cricket.”
During a meeting conducted earlier this year, the MCA decided to honor local boy Rohit Sharma with a stand at the Wankhede Stadium.
A few days ago, the 38-year-old cricketer announced his retirement from Tests, thus bringing an end to his decorated 67-match career. As of now, Rohit Sharma is plying his trade for the Mumbai Indians franchise in the IPL 2025 season.
In 11 matches of the tournament so far, the legendary opener has minted 300 runs at an average of 30 and at a stupendous strike rate of 152.28. With IPL 2025 resumption nearing by, Rohit Sharma will now take field for Mumbai Indians in their next match against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, May 21 at the Wankhede Stadium.
