Just days before the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025–26 is set to begin, an unexpected update has come from the camp of the newly formed franchise, Chattogram Royals. Pakistan’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed has withdrawn from the tournament, and no official reason has been shared so far.

The 12th edition of the BPL will start on December 26. However, Abrar will no longer be part of the competition. Geo Super report has confirmed his exit, though Chattogram Royals have not released any formal statement regarding the decision. This has left fans and experts guessing about the real cause behind his withdrawal.

Pakistan spinner opts out despite receiving NOC from PCB

Notably, one possible reason could be Abrar Ahmed’s involvement with the Pakistan national team. There is a chance that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already informed him about his selection for Pakistan’s upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. That series is scheduled to begin on January 7, with matches on January 9 and January 11, all to be played in Dambulla.

If Abrar is part of those plans, he may have chosen to step away from the BPL to focus on international duties. Notably, he had already received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the PCB to play in the league.

Despite Abrar’s withdrawal, Pakistan players remain a strong presence in this year’s BPL. At the players’ auction held on November 30, young fast bowler Ihsanullah, all-rounder Jahandad Khan, and middle-order batter Haider Ali attracted plenty of attention.

They will join five other Pakistan cricketers who were signed directly before the auction: Saim Ayub, Mohammad Amir, Usman Khan, Khawaja Nafay, and Sahibzada Farhan.

Notably, Abrar Ahmed is not new to the BPL. He previously played for the Comilla Victorians in the 2023 season, where he appeared in one match but did not take any wickets.

The tournament will kick off on December 26, with Sylhet Titans facing Rajshahi Warriors at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
