A video of England opener Ben Duckett appearing drunk and lost in Australia has gone viral on social media, causing embarrassment for both the player and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Notably, the clip shows Duckett struggling to find his way back to the team hotel during a break between the second and third Ashes Tests.

The video, which is about 78 seconds long, was shared widely on X (formerly Twitter). In it, Duckett looks confused, slurs his words, and asks strangers for help. At one point, he offers to book an Uber using someone else’s phone. When asked if he knew where he was staying, Duckett admits that he doesn’t.

The incident reportedly happened during England’s stay in Noosa, a popular resort town in Queensland. The team had gone there after losing the second Ashes Test in Brisbane. England lost that match by eight wickets, and the tour to Noosa was organised by head coach Brendon McCullum. The ECB has insisted that the visit was meant to give players a short break to relax and refresh, not a holiday.

The video surfaced shortly after England’s managing director, Rob Key, publicly stated that the players had behaved well during the break. He also said that if there were any reports of excessive drinking, they would be investigated. However, the video has raised serious questions about those claims.

Following the video’s release, the ECB confirmed that it is aware of the situation and has started an investigation.

A statement from the ECB read: "We are aware of content circulating on social media."

"We have high expectations for behaviour, accepting that players are often under intense levels of scrutiny, with established processes that we follow when conduct falls below expectations. We also support players that need assistance.

"We will not comment further at this stage while we establish the facts."

On the field, Ben Duckett has been struggling during this Ashes series. He has scored only 97 runs so far, averaging just over 16, making it one of his poorest performances. England are already 3-0 down in the series, and this off-field controversy is unlikely to improve their situation or public image during a difficult tour.
