Pakistan’s star spinner Abrar Ahmed and opening batter Saim Ayub are among the first players signed directly by teams for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025-26.
The tournament is set to run from December 26, 2025, to January 23, 2026, with the full player auction scheduled for November 30.
Abrar Ahmed will play for the newly renamed Chattogram Royals. This will be his second BPL appearance, after featuring in one match for Comilla Victorians in 2023.
Sylhet Titans sign Ayub, Amir and Mooen Ali
Notably, Saim Ayub has joined Sylhet Titans, who have also signed experienced Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir, England all-rounder Moeen Ali, and Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai.
Mohammad Amir brings plenty of experience, having played four BPL seasons and taking 52 wickets in 36 matches at an economy rate of 6.36. Moeen Ali and Azmatullah add extra firepower to Sylhet’s squad.
Other pre-auction signings include Dhaka Capitals, who have secured England’s Alex Hales and Pakistan’s Usman Khan. Usman has had an impressive BPL record, scoring 581 runs in 19 matches over two seasons, including three fifties and two centuries, at a strike rate of nearly 149.
Meanwhile, Noakhali Express have signed Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis, while Rangpur Riders picked young wicketkeeper-batter Khawaja Nafay. Rajshahi Warriors have added opener Sahibzada Farhan.
This edition of the BPL will feature five teams, down from seven last season. Dhaka Capitals and Rangpur Riders remain unchanged, while Chattogram Royals, Rajshahi Warriors, and Sylhet Titans are returning with new ownership.
It is important to mention that teams like Chittagong Kings, Durbar Rajshahi, and Sylhet Strikers have exited, and defending champions Fortune Barishal and Khulna Tigers will not participate this season.
The BPL 2025-26 auction has already released a list of 245 foreign players across different categories. Teams are expected to compete fiercely to strengthen their squads with both international stars and emerging talents.
