Bangladesh were set to face Afghanistan in a white-ball series featuring 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs, hosted in India at the end of July. Greater Noida was the planned venue for this series.

However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has requested the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) to postpone the series, citing the monsoon season in India as the main reason. The Bangladesh team has a packed schedule this year, with several crucial series coming.

The proposed series initially included 2 Tests, but the revised schedule comprised only 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs, which were to take place from July 25th to August 6th.

BCB's primary concern is the monsoon season, which is active from June to September in India. The BCB had earlier postponed the series to manage player workload.

Bangladesh's next series is against Pakistan, consisting of 2 Test matches. Many Test players of Bangladesh will be engaged in red-ball games as part of their preparations. Bangladesh will play multiple practice matches in Chattogram and Pakistan before the series.

Bangladesh will play a series against India in September, featuring two Test matches and three T20Is. Following the India series, the Tigers will host South Africa and tour the West Indies at the end of the year.

This demanding schedule is why the BCB is hesitant about a Test series against Afghanistan. Earlier this year, the BCB also postponed a Test against Zimbabwe, converting it into a T20I series. Bangladesh aims to complete their World Test Championship cycle by December 2024.

Bangladesh are facing Afghanistan in a do-or-die game in the T20 World Cup today, which could determine the future of Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh in the World Cup.
