In a nail-biting 116-run chase, Bangladesh lost the important wicket of opener Tanzid Hasan, and to make matters worse, the batter burned a review on the way for a straightforward LBW dismissal.

In a must-win game with the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-finals qualification at stake, Afghanistan didn’t turn up with the bat as they posted 115 runs on board in the first innings, with Gurbaz being the leading contributor with 44 runs.

The wicket of St.Vincent tested batters in true sense and despite a below par total, Afghanistan were confident with a formidable bowling lineup at their helm.

Interestingly, Naveen-Ul-Haq was taken to cleaners in the first over of the chase by Bangladesh opener Litton Das.

However, Fazal Farooqi wasted no time to draw the first blood for his side. In the third delivery of his first over, Farooqi bowled a conventional length delivery outside the off-stump line. The lateral movement helped the bowler as the ball seamed in after hitting the deck, leaving Hasan in two minds.

Tanzid Hasan was caught off guard as he tried to hit the ball across but was trapped on the back leg.

Afghanistan erupted in a huge appeal as umpires upheld their call and ordered Hasan to head back to the dressing room. However, with seconds left on the DRS countdown, Tanzid Hasan went for a review.

But to his dismay, the DRS replays showed three reds and he not only lost his important wicket but also burned a review for Bangladesh on the way back.

Following Hasan’s wicket, Naveen-Ul-Haq struck twice in an over to get Bangladesh captain Shanto and veteran Shakib Al Hasan. The game is still open for both sides to fight for the semi-final berth.
