In a significant development, the International Cricket Council has shifted the Women's T20 World Cup from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates. The Bangladesh Cricket Board was supposed to host the marquee event in October.

However, the apex cricketing body was compelled to relocate it due to the current political turmoil in the country

As a result, the World Cup will now be held in the UAE across two venues- Sharjah and Dubai- between October 3 and 20.

ICC Women's T20 WC moved out of Bangladesh

ICC's Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed his emotions while confirming the news. He said,

"It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event."

He also praised the BCB for trying its heart out to host the event, while revealing how travel advisories from several participating nations prevented it from doing so.

"I would like to thank the team at the BCB for exploring all avenues to try and enable the event to be hosted in Bangladesh, but travel advisories from the governments of a number of the participating teams meant that wasn’t feasible. However, they will retain hosting rights. We look forward to taking an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the near future," he added.

The ICC Women's T20 World Cup will be held between October 3 and 20, comprising 20 group-stage matches between ten teams- India, Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh and Scotland.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals, with the winners proceeding to the final.
