In a recent development, Former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud has stepped down from the post of Director, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Mahmud, 41, who had been an elected member for three consecutive terms since his first election in 2013, resigned before completing his latest tenure that ran until 2023. His exit comes amid major political changes in the country, affecting the board after former president Nazmul Hassan resigned as reported by Cricbuzz.

During his term, Mahmud played a crucial role in the development of Bangladesh cricket. While he was heading the game development of BCB as chairman, the Bangladesh Under-19 team emerged as winners in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2020. 

He has served earlier as an interim head coach and also as a team manager of the national team. Therefore, his attachment is with the administration and development of the sport was in multiple ways.

Mahmud's resignation, in fact, is a part of the wider wave of changes within BCB as a number of other directors such as Jalal Yunus, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury and Naimur Rahman also tendered their resignation.

The highly-awaited Test series between India and Bangladesh is all set to kick off from September 19. The Bangladeshi team will go into this series with much confidence, defeating Pakistan in their recent series. Interestingly, this series victory from India’s perspective would bring them a step near to sealing a spot in the WTC final, set to take place in June 2025 at Lord's.
