Fans link Vikas' Kohli post with Sanjay Manjrekar
Over the years, Vikas has often spoken up for his brother online. This time as well, he did not mention any name. Even so, many fans believe the post was aimed at former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar. In his post, Vikas wrote,
"Such a easy format isn it...someone gave his gyaan few days back...easier said than done..."
Soon after, social media users connected the message to comments made earlier by Sanjay Manjrekar.
This is not the first time such an indirect post has appeared. Earlier, before the ODI series against New Zealand began, Virat Kohli became a topic of discussion online. At that time, Manjrekar questioned Virat’s choice to step away from Test cricket while continuing to play ODIs.
The discussion gained momentum when Manjrekar compared Virat Kohli with players like Joe Root and Steve Smith. These players delivered strong performances in Test cricket, which added more fuel to the debate.
What Sanjay Manjrekar said about Virat Kohli
Sanjay Manjrekar shared his views through a video on Instagram. He spoke about Virat Kohli’s Test career and questioned why Virat chose to walk away instead of working on his struggles.
Manjrekar said that Virat had a tough run in Tests for several years. He also said that players like Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson are building strong legacies in Test cricket.
Manjrekar further added that Virat choosing to continue playing ODIs disappointed him more. According to Manjrekar, one-day cricket is the simplest format for a top-order batter.
Virat Kohli continues his fine run in 50-over format
Virat Kohli has started the new year in great form in one-day cricket. His 93-run knock in the first ODI once again showed his strong touch. However, he narrowly missed his century, falling short by seven runs.
Kyle Jamieson dismissed him in the 40th over. Virat scored 93 runs from 91 balls with a strike rate of 102.20. During his stay at the crease, he hit eight fours and one six.
Notably, during this innings, Virat Kohli became the second-highest run scorer in international cricket. He moved past Kumar Sangakkara and now stands behind only Sachin Tendulkar.
Earlier, he also dominated the VHT while playing for Delhi. He scored 131 runs off 101 balls against Andhra and followed it with 77 runs from 61 balls against Gujarat. These performances clearly show that his desire to score runs in limited-overs cricket remains strong, even at 37 years of age.
Virat Kohli will now feature in the second ODI against New Zealand. The match is scheduled to take place on January 14 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
