Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz is reportedly frustrated by the tight scrutiny this BPL 2025-26 season, with Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) Anti-Corruption Unit taking a strong zero-tolerance approach.
The BCB’s decision of safeguarding the integrity of the BPL has seemingly left several players, including overseas stars, in discomfort.
As confirmed by Dhaka Capitals captain Mohammad Mithun, Rahmanullah Gurbaz has even contemplated leaving the BPL 2025-26 season midway as the tight scrutiny has affected him mentally.
Dhaka Capitals skipper spills the bean on Gurbaz’s mental state
While speaking with the reporters, Dhaka Capitals captain Mohammad Mithun said that his opening batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been left mentally disturbed over BCB’s strict policies against corruption in the BPL 2025-26 season.
Mithun praised Gurbaz’s experience, and added that him being not in the right headspace can impact the entire team. He said, “I can only say that he is disturbed. He plays all over the world, has played in the IPL, and carries a huge reputation. He took this matter very seriously and it has affected him mentally. When a player like Gurbaz is not in the right headspace, it impacts the entire team.”
The Dhaka Capitals skipper also confirmed that there was a possibility of Rahmanullah Gurbaz leaving the BPL 2025-26 season midway into the tournament. However, the issue has now been resolved. He added: “Yes, there was such a conversation. There were signals and guidelines from his board as well, which he was following. Later, the issue was resolved.”
Role of BCB’s integrity unit in BPL 2025-26
The BCB has appointed an Anti-Corruption Unit to protect the integrity of the league this season. As per reports, the unit has been not only questioning players and franchise officials, but have also seized mobile phones in some cases.
As per a BCB statement, several foreign players have been also spoken to in private as witnesses in a bid to verify “recruitment processes, contractual arrangements, and payment structures”.
In Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s case, Dhaka Capitals chief executive Atik Fahad has claimed that BCB’s integrity unit officers barged into the cricketer’s hotel room over the weekend.
