One of the most mercurial sides in international cricket, Pakistan are undergoing a rough patch in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where they are on the verge of elimination.

Under the leadership of Babar Azam, the 2009 T20 World Cup champions have managed just one win from three matches and now depend on other results to stay alive in the tournament. Pakistan's lacklustre performance has been under the scanner of former cricketers, and also PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who has promised a thorough review once the side returns home.

However, according to reports while several high-profile players could get axed from the national side, Azam's role as Pakistan's white-ball captain remains secure, with the board looking for a long-term solution.

As per Geo News, Naqvi stated that PCB are in consultations and that such a time would be inappropriate to dwell in details.

“The consultation is ongoing and it is not appropriate to discuss [the matter] further at this juncture,”

Interestingly, Naqvi after Pakistan's narrow loss against arch-rivals India called for 'major surgery' in Pakistan cricket, but since then has toned down.

Azam and Co. will be in action on June 16 against Ireland in Florida, which could end up being a wash-out. Pakistan will hope that today's ICC T20 World Cup 2024 contest between the United States of America (USA), and Ireland takes place, were a win for Uncle Sam or abandonment of the tie will result in Azam's XI being knocked out of the competition.

Pakistan suffered back-to-back losses against US and India, and notched up a much-needed win over Canada.
