'Ruturaj Is Maharashtrian Samson': Netizens Express Frustration On CSK-Skipper's Exclusion From India's Squad

In the latest development, BCCI has announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh, which is set to begin on September 19. The team will see the returns of Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli to the red-ball format, while left-arm pacer Yash Dayal has received his maiden call-up to the national side.

Rishabh Pant has not featured for India in Tests since December 2022 and will make a much-awaited comeback to bolster the middle order. Akash Deep, who impressed in the ongoing Duleep Trophy with nine wickets, has also earned his place in the squad.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will lead India’s pace attack. The spin department will see veteran all-rounders Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Among the significant omissions was Ruturaj Gaikwad, who recently captained India C to victory in the Duleep Trophy. Despite his solid performance in the second innings of the final, he was left out of the squad.

His average of 42.69 in first-class cricket and his leadership credentials in domestic cricket weren’t enough to secure a place, likely due to the crowded competition at the top of India’s batting order.

However,  Ruturaj Gaikwad's exclusion from the squad was not well received by fans and Twitter erupted with negative reactions and bashed the selection committee for this decision. Let's Take A Look At The Twitter Reactions.

Fans Come In Support Of Gaikwad After Excluded From Bangladesh Test Squad

No Place For Gaikwad Despite Significant Contribution In Domestic Cricket

The Indian team’s top order is dominated by captain Rohit Sharma, in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. The young duo had a stellar series against England, with Jaiswal amassing over 700 runs and Gill finishing as the second-highest run-scorer.

This made it difficult for Gaikwad to break into the squad despite his impressive domestic performances. Another factor that has raised eyebrows is that no vice-captain was named in the squad.

The series against Bangladesh is crucial for the Men in Blue as they continue to push for a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
