Gambhir, Morkel To Bring LSG's Yudhvir Singh At Team India's Practice Before Bangladesh Tests

Yudhvir Singh, a fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, who currently plays for the Lucknow SuperGiants in the IPL, has been called up as a net bowler for the upcoming India-Bangladesh Test series. His pace has given him this opportunity; even though he hasn't played first-class cricket since December 2022, his consistent 145-150 km/h quick, he was signed up by LSG for the 2023 IPL season, where he appeared in five matches.

Yudhvir Singh has taken a unique path to the Indian camp. Despite having only four first-class matches under his belt, his raw speed has earned him a spot in the Indian camp starting September 12 in Chennai.

“He received a call yesterday and was asked to report to Chennai on 12th September. It is great news for him– a stepping stone to make it to the Indian team,” a source close to Yudhvir was quoted as saying by KSW.

The selection of Yudhvir is surprising, given that he has taken just three wickets in his first-class career at an average of 80. His speed appears to be his most significant asset, and with the Bangladesh team also carrying their pace king, Nahid Rana, who gave some scares to Pakistani batters in their recent encounter, his chief job would be to assist the Indian batters in preparing for this onslaught.

Himanshu Singh Receives Team India Practice Call Up

Apart from Yudhvir, Mumbai off-spinner Himanshu Singh also finds his place in the Indian camp. Despite not making his debut for Mumbai's senior side, Singh has returned impressive performances in age-group tournaments. He finds his place in the squad after his stellar performance of 7/74 in one of the recent matches, which caught the eye of the chief selector, Ajit Agarkar.

"Ajit Agarkar (India's chief selector) and his co-selectors have been impressed with Himanshu for a while and have been tracking his progress. He is tall (six foot four inches) and has an action similar to that of Ashwin."

The preparatory camp in Chennai, scheduled from September 13-18, is a crucial part of the preparation for the two-Test series against Bangladesh. It will feature players from the Duleep Trophy after their first game.
