As the Asia Cup returns with another thrilling edition, the Pakistan Cricket Board has taken a bold step while announcing its squad for the upcoming tournament. Veteran Pakistan batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been left out of the squad.
As the move shocked the cricket world, Babar Azam has set his eyes on a triumphant return. Determined to silence critics, the ace Pakistani batter was spotted grinding hard in the nets
Babar Azam Is Back To Grind
For years, Babar Azam stood as the backbone of Pakistan’s batting, but a dip in form has sparked concern. Scoring last century in 2023, his struggle was going over across the formats, and as the board announced the squad for the Asia Cup 2025, the Pakistani batter was left out of the squad.
But he didn’t let his morale down as Babar Azam was seen grinding hard at the nets, aiming for a stronger comeback. In a viral video, the Pakistani star batter was seen working on his batting at the Ghani Institute of Cricket in DHA Lahore. With relentless hard work, Babar Azam is determined to rediscover his form.
Despite being the best batter of the side, he faced long lasted rough patch in recent times. With his T20I strike rate slipping to 129, he was sidelined from the format, even missing the last series against West Indies, another setback in his decorated career. Along with him, Mohammad Rizwan has also been dropped from the Asia Cup 2025 squad.
Babar Faces Fresh Blow In PCB’s Central Contract
As the setbacks are hitting hard, Babar Azam, Pakistan Cricket Board’s recent central contract renewal has deepened his woes. Once in Category A, the star batter has now been demoted to Category B, joining the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Salman Ali Agha, Saim Ayub and others.
That move has made an impact on his salary, too. As he was getting PKR 4.5 million per month, his demotion led him to earn PKR 3 million, which is 9.28 lakh in Indian rupees. With the Asia Cup 2025 kicking off on September 9 and Pakistan gearing up for a tri-series against Afghanistan and the UAE, Babar will remain absent. Fans need to wait for the Test series against South Africa after the Asia Cup to see Babar Azam in action.
