On Wednesday, August 20, the PCB updated their central contract for the upcoming 2025-2026 season. The latest development comes as a shock for Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan as the two players were demoted to Category B.

Notably, Babar and Rizwan were the only two players who were part of Category A, but the demotion didn't go well with the senior cricketers. The board explained that the contracts were given based on players' performances.

In the latest events, a report from Cricket Pakistan stated that the senior stars didn't take the contract demotion nicely and are miffed about the change. Further, the report added that Babar Azam and Rizwan are furious over PCB's lack of explanation.

The report added that the players exchanged their frustration via direct messaging and are also contemplating opting out of the central contract following the disrespect by the apex cricket board of Pakistan.

Babar Azam And Rizwan To Face Heavy Deduction In Annual Salary

Currently, Category A players receive PKR 4.5 million per month, of which PKR 2.07 million is from the ICC share. Meanwhile, Category B players earn PKR 3 million, Category C players get PKR 1 million and Category D players receive PKR 750,000.

Thus, Babar and Rizwan will be earning PKR 3 million, which is equivalent to 9.28 lakh rupees. Previously, they were earning PKR 4.5 million per month, which is equivalent to 13.95 lakhs rupees. Thus, the two cricketers have dealt a setback of nearly 4.5 lakh rupees.

Further, it is expected that the PCB might removes a 3% clause that allows players a share of salary from ICC's revenue. However, if that clause is removed then the salaries will be reduced further.
