On Sunday, June 16, Pakistan will lock horns against Ireland in their final group-stage match. It is a dead-rubber tie as both teams have been knocked out of the tournament.

Pakistan Cricket has hit rock bottom as they first lost to the USA, then suffered an embarrassing defeat against India. Notably, the game against India was for Pakistan to win as they dominated the match for most of the part.

Men in Green's strategy to take the game deep brought India back in the game as middle-order batters Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, and Iftikhar Ahmed surrendered under pressure and as a result, the defeat resulted in Pakistan's early exit from the World Cup.

Talking about Imad, the left-hand batter returned to the side after reversing his retirement in 2024 but has failed to make a mark. In the game against India, Imad scored a slow 15 (23).

In the latest events, the 35-year-old, ahead of the clash against Ireland, spoke to the press where he broke silence on his approach against India. Wasim apologised to the fans and stated that the players are more hurt by their performance than the fans.

The all-rounder also added that it is the lowest point in Pakistani cricket and he could not execute his idea to take the game deep properly. Seeking forgiveness, Wasim stated that they are also human beings and can make mistakes.

“We compete with the world's best teams. Their mindset has changed over time. We used to rule in T20 cricket. I think we have moved back a little now. Me personally and our team, including me, are very disappointed and sad. And the whole public is sad that we didn't perform well and believes we are guilty. We are more disappointed than you are. This is our profession, after all. But I would also like to say that we are human beings, we can make mistakes and we also get affected by these things."

After defeat against India, Pakistan had to rely on Ireland to win against USA, but the match got called-off due to rain and as a result, USA qualified for super 8.
