The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent a legal letter to the owners of Australian-based YouTube channel, The Grade Cricketer. As per reports, BCCI objected to the channel’s use of logos and pictures from the ongoing IPL 2025 season on their videos.

In turn, Sam Perry and Ian Higgins, creators of the YouTube channel, have taken down every single video from their channel that covered IPL 2025.

The BCCI considers the usage of any video footage or even still photography from the IPL in podcasts as “commercial”. The Grade Cricketer channel, which also features sponsorship from an Indian online grocery platform on their videos, were instructed by the BCCI in pertaining to the commercial use of IPL content.

Sam Perry, a co-runner of the YouTube channel, confirmed to the listeners of their podcasts that they have removed every single video that covered this year’s IPL 2025 season. Perry added that they received a “very polite legal letter” from the BCCI about using elements from IPL on their content.

Perry, however, also added that he and Ian Higgins will continue to cover IPL 2025 in a legal manner, and will also be travelling to India to shoot live videos.

The BCCI has often maintained a strict policy against unauthorized use of IPL content on social media, especially by YouTubers. Uploading match clips, highlights, or any broadcast footage without permission can lead to takedown notices, demonetization, or legal action. The board strictly protects its media rights to preserve the commercial value of its official broadcast deals.
