In a significant development, the Government of India has blocked access to multiple Pakistani YouTube channels, including those of former cricketers Shoaib Akhtar and Basit Ali. The move comes in the immediate aftermath of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025.

The brutal attack in the scenic Baisaran Valley was carried out by armed militants who opened fire on a group of visitors. The incident not only escalated tensions between India and Pakistan but also triggered a rigorous examination of media narratives circulating in the subcontinent.

As part of this crackdown, India has banned access to the host of influential Pakistani digital media platforms. Among the major casualties is Shoaib Akhtar’s YouTube channel, “100mph".

The former fast bowler used the platform to share cricket commentary, analysis, and interviews. He has often drawn attention for his outspoken views and statements.

When users in India attempt to access these banned channels, they are met with a red warning message from YouTube that reads:

“This content is currently unavailable in this country because of an order from the government related to national security or public order. For further details about government removal requests, please visit the Google Transparency Report.”

Other Cricketers And Channels In The List

Basit Ali, another former Pakistani cricketer with a significant digital following, also had his YouTube channel blocked. Other cricket-related channels that have been restricted in India include those of Rashid Latif, Tanveer Ahmed, and various sports-focused creators like Wasay Habib, Rizwan Haider, Aap Ka Mohsin Ali, Muneeb Farooq, and Uzair Cricket. The ban also affects prominent sports media platforms such as BBN Sports and Samaa Sports.

It is important to note that in addition to sports and commentary channels, India has also barred access to major Pakistani news outlets including Dawn News, ARY News, and Geo News.
