Virat Kohli recorded his sixth half-century of the IPL 2025 season through the course of his calculated knock against Delhi Capitals in match number 46 of the tournament. Opening the innings for the RCB franchise at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Kohli shared a century-plus partnership with fellow half-centurion and number five batter Krunal Pandya.
Notably, the legendary Indian cricketer took 45 deliveries to reach the landmark figure, thus marking the slowest individual fifty of IPL 2025.
Virat Kohli surpasses Shankar for unwanted record
Virat Kohli composed a half-century from 45 balls against Delhi Capitals in Delhi in match 46 of the IPL 2025 season. At the time of reaching his fifty, the legendary RCB opener had belted just four boundaries and maintained a batting strike rate of just 111.11.
Recording the slowest half-century of the season, Kohli went past CSK’s middle-order batter Vijay Shankar to claim the unwanted record. Notably, Shankar notched up a 43-ball half-century to record the season’s previous slowest fifty, which incidentally, also came against the Delhi Capitals, albeit in Chennai.
Nonetheless, chasing 163 for a win, RCB lost three of its top four batters inside the first four overs of the innings. Slipping to 26-3 in four overs, Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya led RCB’s rescue act with a strong 119-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Kohli was eventually dismissed for 51 runs from 47 balls by Sri Lankan paceman Dushmantha Chameera, at a time when the RCB were 17 runs away from victory from the remaining 13 balls.
