On Saturday night, Australia got the better of their arch nemesis, England in a group B encounter at the Kensington Oval, Barbados which took them to the top of the table. This happened to be the first event in the last 17 years that the Aussies defeated the Englishmen in the T20 World Cups.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Australia got off to an explosive start at the top, thanks to David Warner and Travis Head's 70-run stand in 5 overs. The middle order chipped in with good cameos which took them past the 200-run mark.

Adam Zampa with his 2/28, led their charge with the ball by dismissing both the openers while they were cruising with the chase with 73 runs in 7 overs. Pat Cummins bowled a brilliant spell of 2/23 as well and they won the game by 36 runs.

The Last Time Defeated England In The T20 World Cup

It was during the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007 that the Aussies defeated their rivals, England.

Since this 2007 instance, Australia has lost to England twice in the 2010 final and 2021 while a game in 2022 was abandoned.

Both the teams will now be heading towards Antigua to play the next leg of the group stage while being at the two ends of the points table. While Australia are cruising towards a Super-8 spot, England need to win their remaining matches to stay alive in the tournament.
