South Africa bundled out for just 138 in their first innings to concede a huge 74-run lead to Australia at the halfway stage of the match on Day 2. David Bedingham top-scored for the Proteas with 45 cautious runs from 111 balls. Australian captain Pat Cummins paved the way for the defending champions with sensational figures of 6-28.
Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada picked up three wickets each to fight back for South Africa to reduce Australia to 73-7 at one stage. However, a handy 50-ball 43 for Alex Carey extended Australia’s total to 144-8 by stumps, with Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon batting at the crease with an overall lead of 218 runs.
Cummins Goes Past Jasprit Bumrah In WTC 2023-25
Australian captain Pat Cummins dethroned Indian speed demon Jasprit Bumrah to become the leading wicket-taker in the 2023-25 WTC cycle. Cummins, who started the match with 73 wickets in the Championship, picked up a six-fer in the first South African innings to extend his tally to 79 scalps from 34 innings at an average of 23.03.
Bumrah, however, holds a far superior bowling average of 15.09, having picked up 77 wickets in just 28 innings spanning 15 Tests, which included a handful of matches on turning Indian surfaces.
India Likely To Host NZ Before T20 WC 2026: Report
Team India will likely host the New Zealand cricket team in January 2026 next year. As reported by the TOI, New Zealand will be touring India to play a series of three ODIs and five T20I matches in a bid to prepare for the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup. All eight matches are scheduled to be played between January 11 and January 30.
The tour will mark New Zealand’s first trip to India since securing a historic 3-0 Test series win against the hosts late last year.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz Replaces Shanto As BAN ODI Captain
Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been appointed as the new national ODI captain of the team by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The cricketer replaced Najmul Hossain Shanto in the process, and will be expected the helm the role for 12 months.
Mehidy’s first assignment as national ODI captain will be his team’s three-match series against Sri Lanka next month. Notably, the Bangladesh team now has three separate captains, one for each international format.
PSL To Collide With IPL Once Again In 2026: Report
The PSL 2026 season will reportedly collide with IPL 2026 next year in lieu of the men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India, putting all international players in a scheduling flux for the second time in successive years. PSL and IPL seasons also collided this year after Pakistan’s 2025 ICC Champions Trophy hosting phase swallowed the annual PSL hosting window. As quoted by NDTV Sports, PSL 2026 will likely be played in April-May next year, which marks the business stage of the annual IPL in India.
