In a press conference on June 12, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced Mehidy Hasan Miraz as their new ODI captain. The all-rounder has replaced Najmul Hossain Shanto and will assume the role for 12 months.

Miraz previously served as the vice-captain of the ODI side under Najmul Hossain Shanto and led the country in four games during his skipper's absence. He will now begin his tenure as full-time captain with the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.

The all-rounder has expressed his gratitude after being appointed captain and has vowed to play fearless cricket, remaining completely committed to his role.

"Captaining the national team is a dream come true. I’m incredibly honoured by the trust the Board has placed in me. This is a proud moment for me and my family. I believe in this group — we have the skills and the mindset to play fearless cricket. I want us to express ourselves confidently, stay committed, and keep playing with heart for the country."

Mehidy Hasan Miraz Rewarded For His Consistency

The appointment of Mehidy Hasan Miraz is an appreciation for his consistent performances in the format over the years. He has picked 110 wickets with the ball in 105 matches so far and has two centuries and six fifties to his name. One of Miraz's biggest strengths is his flexibility as a cricketer, and in the recent past, he has taken on more responsibility by batting at number 4 in the 50-over format.

The BCB Cricket Operations Committee Chairman, Nazmul Abedeen, also praised Mehidy Hasan Miraz for his consistency and expects him to take the team forward in the transitional phase.

“Miraz has consistently delivered with both bat and ball and brings a fighting spirit and infectious energy to the team. His performances, leadership qualities, and overall maturity make him a fitting choice to guide the team through this transitional phase in our ODI journey.”

Bangladesh now have different captains in all three formats. Najmul Hossain Shanto is the captain of the Test side while Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz have replaced him in T20Is and ODIs, respectively.
