Looks like Shreyas Iyer's fortune has taken a U-turn on him as his team SoBo Mumbai Falcons lost a close-contested T20 Mumbai League 2025 Final on June 12. Notably, Iyer also endured a frustrating outing in the grand finale as the team fell to a five-wicket defeat at the hands of MSC Maratha Royals at the Wankhede Stadium.

Keeping in mind to build a competitive total, Mayuresh Tandel (50 off 32) and Harsh Aghav (45 off 28) led a dramatic turnaround for the Falcons, stitching an unbeaten 85-run partnership for the fifth wicket to secure a decent total but it was Shreyas Iyer’s untimely dismissal that defined SMF's stutter in the first innings.

Falcons Gain Momentum After Shreyas Iyer's Wicket

After winning the toss and opting to bat, the Falcons lost early momentum. Iyer, walking in at 31/1, failed to find any rhythm during his 17-ball stay. He managed just 12 runs before Vaibhav Mali caught him, leaving his team at a precarious 72/4 in the 12th over.

Ishan Mulchandani (20 off 17) and Amogh Bhatkal (16 off 14) tried to build a base, but neither could convert their starts. The lower order saved the day, with Tandel and Aghav launching a late counterattack that pushed the Mumbai Falcons to 157/4 in 20 overs.

Royals Secure Trophy With 5 Wickets Left

In reply, the Royals got off to a brisk start. Despite quick wickets, including Siddhesh Lad (15) and Sahil Jadhav (22), the chase was anchored brilliantly by Chinmay Sutar, who scored a calm 53 off 49 balls, keeping one end steady.

Falcons bowlers Kartik Mishra and Yash Dicholkar tried to pull things back with two wickets apiece, but Awais Khan’s explosive 38-run cameo, followed by the match-winning effort from Raje and Sutar, sealed the Royals’ triumph.

Iyer’s disappointment was visible, having failed to lead from the front in a high-stakes final as he failed in the IPL too with Punjab Kings. While his side posted a decent total, the skipper’s low strike rate and dismissal at a key juncture possibly cost them the momentum they needed in the middle overs.
