The much-awaited Asia Cup 2023 schedule is finally on the verge of being finalised and going by the scheduling reports, it promises to be a cracking tournament. The arch-rivals India-Pakistan might go head-to-head three times in the tournament, firstly in the opening round, then in Super 4 and finally if they both reach the final which is scheduled to take place on 17th of September.

The tournament is likely to kick off on 30th of August in Multan, Pakistan with home team taking on Nepal in the curtain raiser. Total four matches are to be played in Pakistan which includes one Super 4 game between A1 and B2. Pakistan, India and Nepal are in Group A while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are slotted in Group B.  Also, Pakistan are most likely to be A1 and India A2 from Group A which means that after the September 2 game in the group stage, the teams will face off again on September 10 in the Super 4 stage at Kandy.

The final of the tournament will be played in R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo while rest of the matches in Sri Lanka will be played at Kandy and Dambulla. However, there could be changes in the venue and Colombo might host Super 4 games too.

The tournament is being played in the hybrid model which was a bone of contention between the PCB and BCCI for a long time. The good news though is that both the boards have found a common ground now which is a positive sign for the whole cricketing fraternity.

Talking about the tournament, it is a six-team affair and will be played in a 50-over format this year, with a World Cup in India just around the corner. The 2022 edition was played in T20 format, and it was Sri Lanka that emerged victorious then. The favorites for this edition are still India and Pakistan though, and the clash between the two teams will surely grab the eyeballs and imagination of the cricket fans all around the globe.
