'This Has Been The Best Men’s Ashes Series...,' Ben Stokes Makes A Bold Statement On Ashes 2023

England captain, Ben Stokes has stated that should England win the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, the ongoing Ashes 2023 might be ranked as one of the most best men's Ashes series ever contested.

Stokes hails 'brilliant' cricket in Ashes 2023

After securing a thrilling win at Headingley, the English squad is bracing itself to even the score 2-2 against their arch-rivals while the Australians, freshly smarting from their defeat at Leeds' Headingley, are determined to recover and seal the series.

While speaking to the reporters ahead of the fourth Test, Stokes said that if England wins the upcoming match and the series is tied 2-2 going into the final game, it would be hard not to consider this men's Ashes series as one of the best in a long time, if not the best.

According to him, the cricket played in the series has been exceptionally brilliant, irrespective of the teams involved.

“Well, I think if we win this one, and then go into the last game 2-2, then it’ll be hard not to say that this has been the best men’s Ashes series in a long time, if probably not the best. So yeah, I think just overall, like, take away Australia and England, just the cricket that has been played has been absolutely brilliant,” said Stokes.

The England captain mentioned that everyone, whether watching at the ground or on TV, has truly relished the cricket played in the series. He reckoned that spectacular moments and outstanding individual performances have made the Ashes 2023 matches highly enjoyable.

"And I think everyone who has watched at the ground or TV in England or TV at home has just really enjoyed the cricket that’s been played. And guess that’s what you want from sport," added the dynamic all-rounder.

It is worth mentioning that even though England boasts of 13 wins out of their last 16 Test matches in Manchester, they haven't bagged an Ashes Test victory in Manchester since 1981. Australia, too, holds the upper hand from their last encounter at Old Trafford in 2019 when they trounced England by 185 runs.
