Indian captain Rohit Sharma holds great expectations for the young wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, affirming that he will receive ample opportunities in Test cricket to demonstrate his potential.

Kishan made his Test debut under Rohit's leadership and was given a chance to open his account in Test cricket before the declaration in the series opener in Dominica.

Though Kishan didn't get much opportunity to bat due to the early declaration, his performance behind the stumps on a turning pitch against bowlers like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja impressed the captain.

Rohit has consistently praised Kishan's talent, highlighting his double-century in ODI cricket against Bangladesh last year in December, and believes he deserves more opportunities to prove himself. As a left-handed batter known for his aggressive style, Kishan has been given complete freedom by Rohit to express himself on the field.

The captain also commended Kishan's wicket-keeping skills during his debut game in Dominica despite the challenging pitch conditions. Rohit expressed confidence that Kishan will be prepared and motivated to perform even better in future matches.

“Ishan (Kishan) is a very talented guy. We’ve seen it in the short career that he’s had for India. He recently made 200 runs in limited-overs (ODI against Bangladesh last year). He has the game and the talent and we have to harness that talent. So we need to give (him) opportunities. He’s a left-handed batter and likes to play a lot of aggressive cricket. I have had a clear conversation with him on how I want him to play and have given him complete freedom. He has the game and if he wants a bit of freedom to express himself, then that is our job. We will do that with Ishan,”  said Rohit Sharma ahead of the second Test in the Port of Spain.

Rohit’s belief in the young player's abilities and willingness to give him opportunities to flourish bodes well for India's cricketing future.
