Pakistan will likely play with the arch-rival on September 2 in Kandy in the Asia Cup, with the tournament expected for August 30 start. As per a report, the tournament opener will be played in Multan, with hosts Pakistan taking on Nepal. The final is reportedly scheduled for September 17 in Colombo.

Initially, the tournament was planned to be hosted solely in Pakistan. Still, it was later modified to follow a hybrid model approved by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), resulting in matches being played in both Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The draft schedule, created by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), may undergo further changes before the ACC announces the final version. It was updated to include Multan as a second venue after the new PCB administration, led by chairman Zaka Ashraf, took over.

According to the draft schedule, Pakistan will retain the position of A1, and India A2, irrespective of their performances in the group stage. Similarly, Sri Lanka will be designated B1, and Bangladesh B2. If Nepal and Afghanistan advance to the next step, they will replace the eliminated teams from Group A and Group B, respectively.

One interesting aspect of this tournament is the intriguing match between Pakistan and India. Both teams are placed in Group A, along with Nepal, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan form Group B.

The rivals might meet three times in the tournament, which is a rare occurrence. They will meet during, group stage, Super 4 and in the final if both teams manage to qualify. Interestingly, Pakistan and India have been playing against each other only in multi-nation tournaments which keeps everyone excited when these two teams clash against each other irrespective of the format. This upcoming event is highly anticipated and will surely be exciting for everyone.
