Major Cricket League's (MLC) inaugural season has been nothing short of thrilling, as the sport gradually gains traction in the United States. Another example of the sporting spectacle was witnessed in the clash between San Francisco Unicorns (SFU) and Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR), featuring a jaw-dropping performance from LAKR's Andre Russell that has garnered significant attention across the sport's emerging U.S. fanbase.

Andres Russell unleashed monster 108-metres six off Haris Rauf's bowling

Chasing a massive target of 213, the Knight Riders were off to a roaring start, thanks to Jason Roy's quick-fire 45 off 21 balls. However, his departure and subsequent dismissals slowed the team's momentum, paving the way for Andre Russell's arrival.

The Jamaican powerhouse, who had been off the boil in the first two matches, finally set the stage ablaze with his ferocious batting. Russell amassed an unbeaten 42 off 26 balls, including four skyscraping sixes.

One of Russell’s sixes that he fetched off Haris Rauf’s bowling in the 19th over astonishingly travelled 108 metres, marking the longest in MLC 2023 so far. This colossal maximum toppled Devon Conway’s previous record of 106 metres that he hit against Anrich Nortje of Washington Freedom.

Meanwhile, despite Russell's pyrotechnics, his 75-run stand with Sunil Narine wasn't sufficient to help LAKR sail past the finish line as they disappointingly fell short by 21 runs. Notably, this was LAKR’s third consecutive loss of the season.

Earlier in the day, Matthew Wade's masterclass with the bat thrust the Unicorns to a mighty 212. The Australian wicket-keeper batter entertained with a scintillating 78 off 51 balls, complemented by seven fours and five sixes.

On the other hand, solid cameos from Marcus Stoinis (37 off 18) and Corey Anderson (39 off 20) further helped the Unicorns post the massive score.
