Ahead of the upcoming T20I series between India and South Africa starting on November 8, Arshdeep Singh is eyeing significant milestones. With 28 wickets in 14 games in 2024, he could surpass Bhuvneshwar Kumar's record for the most wickets (37) by an Indian in T20Is in a calendar year.
India's young brigade are touring South Africa for a challenging 4 T20Is series starting from November 8. The team led by Suryakumar Yadav has already landed in Durban for the first contest.
A lot of players will be in focus, especially with the IPL 2025 mega auction around the corner. Left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh was released by Punjab Kings (PBKS) despite being one of India's leading pacers in the white-ball format. Hence, his redemption is absolutely necessary.
Arshdeep Singh to become India's leading wicket-taker?
Interestingly, Arshdeep Singh is nearing a noteworthy record ahead of the extensive T20I series, which is also India's final white-ball assignment for the 2024 calendar year. In 2024 alone, Arshdeep has taken 28 wickets in 14 matches with an impressive economy of 7.14, highlighted by a stellar 4-0-9-4 spell against the USA in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
With 10 more wickets, Arshdeep will surpass Bhuvneshwar Kumar's record of most wickets by an Indian in T20Is in a calendar year. Bhuvneshwar Kumar's record stands at 37 wickets in 32 matches at an economy rate of 6.98.
Not only that, with just 10 more wickets, Arshdeep could also potentially become India's all-time leading wicket-taker in T20Is. He currently has a total of 87 wickets, with Yuzvendra Chahal leading the all-time list with 96 wickets.
Arshdeep Singh is also 13 wickets away to join Deepti Sharma as only the second Indian to take 100 wickets in the T20I format.
Arshdeep unfollows PBKS on social media ahead of mega auction
PBKS will enter the IPL 2025 mega auction with the highest purse of INR 110.5 crores and a total of 4 RTM cards. Many predicted the franchise to buy back Arshdeep Singh in the mega auction. However, the fast bowler's social media activity sparked a feud. He unfollowed PBKS's official handle on Instagram which suggests that the franchise might not use an RTM card for Arshdeep. The mega auction will take place on November 24, 25 at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
