Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Thursday, July 17.

Arshdeep Singh Injured Ahead Of Manchester Test

Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has suffered an injury scare ahead of the fourth Test of the five-match series against England at Old Trafford in Manchester. As per a Times of India report, the speedster suffered a blow to his bowling hand while stopping a ball, and was subsequently spotted taping his hand.

India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate also confirmed that Arshdeep Singh sustained an injury during a training session. Although the pacer is yet to feature in the playing XI this series, Akash Deep’s lacklustre outing at Lord’s had prompted experts to predict Arshdeep’s potential debut in the Manchester Test.

Bangladesh Name Unchanged Squad For PAK Series

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named an unchanged Bangladesh squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Pakistan. Bangladesh, under the leadership of charismatic wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das, recently pipped hosts Sri Lanka by a 2-1 margin in the island nation.

Litton will be accompanied by fellow senior pros like Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the team. The series between Pakistan and hosts Bangladesh will be played between July 20 and July 24 in Dhaka.

ICC To Hold Asia Cup 2025 Talks: Report

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will reportedly hold talks regarding the fate of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup. Marred by controversies stemming from prevailing geo-political tensions shared between the governments of the participating nations, earlier reports indicated that Team India might pull out of the tournament overall, only for the rumor to get debunked by a BCCI official.

According to Forbes, the fate of the Asia Cup will now be discussed by the ICC, considering the BCCI has refused to send its officials to Bangladesh for an ACC meeting later this month.

Karnataka Government Approves Criminal Case Against RCB

The Karnataka government has given its permission for filing criminal cases against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and against the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) over the post-IPL 2025 stampede that took place outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium last month.

The government has also allowed for cases to be filed against some top cops and event organizers for the stampede that took the lives of 11 people, resulting in the injury of 70 others. The verdict was delivered by the Justice Michael D'Cunha Commission, whose report pointed fingers towards everyone, citing “gross negligence and dereliction of duty.”
