Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a lacklustre IPL 2025 season, finishing at the bottom of the points table with just four wins in fourteen matches. Apart from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad's untimely injury, the non-performance of several players was a major reason behind CSK's torrid run in the tournament. 

Thus, ahead of the 2026 season, the franchise may opt to release some of its existing players. As the trade window is open, let's analyse and find out such CSK players who could be valuable assets for other teams. 

Rahul Tripathi

Why Could CSK Release Rahul Tripathi?

  • Rahul Tripathi joined CSK for a decent price of INR 3.40 Crores in last year's mega auction. However, the right-handed batter had a poor season with the Super Kings, managing only 55 runs at an average of 11. 
  • He failed to live up to expectations, exacerbating CSK's top-order problems amid the franchise's struggles with Ruturaj Gaikwad's injury. 
  • So, with Gaikwad back at the helm and CSK having secured the services of Ayush Mhatre, Urvil Patel, and Dewald Brevis, Tripathi's ouster is highly likely.

Why CSK Could Release Rachin Ravindra?

  • Rachin Ravindra rejoined Chennai Super Kings as the franchise used its Right To Match (RTM) card for him in last year's mega auction. However, the southpaw hasn't been consistent in the tournament, letting CSK down with a prolonged rough patch. 
  • Ravindra has found it tough to get going in CSK colours, scoring 413 runs at an average of 24.29 across 18 innings. Given that he hasn't translated his international success into the IPL, CSK might consider replacing him ahead of the next season.

Rachin Ravindra has a knack for providing stable starts to the innings in international cricket. KKR, DC (considering Faf du Plessis' age, Abhishek Porel and Karun Nair's inconsistency) and SRH could be a few teams who might show interest in trading Ravindra with CSK.

Why CSK Could Release Sam Curran?

  • Sam Curran was bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for INR 2.4 Crores before IPL 2025. The English all-rounder didn't get a consistent run, featuring in * out of 14 matches. 
  • Curran didn't quite fit in CSK's scheme of things. While they couldn't allot him a stable batting position, his medium pace didn't yield desirable results for the five-time champions.
